Start of Term Arrangements

2017-18: High Expectations and High Aspirations

Due to staff professional development and training, the Academy is closed to students and parents on Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th September.

The new term will begin on Wednesday 6th September 2017 with the enrolment of students at our Meet Your Form Tutor Day, which will run from 10am to 5pm.

Wednesday 6th September - Meet Your Form Tutor Day

All students and their parents/carers must attend a meeting with their child’s Form Tutor before beginning the new academic year.  A time for this meeting will be allocated and sent out in the post.

Meet Your Form Tutor Day is an essential part of the academic year. The Academy aims to secure excellent partnerships with parents/carers, so that we can work together to achieve the best outcomes for your child. At your meeting on the 6th of September we will be able to discuss your child’s progress, attendance and set targets for the new academic year, and discuss the home/academy agreement as well as our Positive Behaviour Policy.

Important Parental Information for 2017-18

The school day will begin at 8:30am and will finish at 2:50pm. For selected Year 10 and 11 students, the school day will finish at 3:50pm on certain days in the week. This will allow for additional preparation to take place for GCSE exams and to allow time for students to catch up with subjects in which they may currently be behind in.

Students required to complete extra sessions will be notified separately and this will be a mandatory extension of the school day.

It is a legal responsibility of parents/carers to ensure that their child arrives on time to school and remains in school until 2:50pm or 3:50pm, dependent upon the requirement of their timetable.

Please be aware that students who arrive late to school will be required to complete a 20-minute detention at break time on the same day that they are late. In addition, failure to attend school at the correct time or failure to remain in school for the duration of the school day can lead to significant fines being issued to parents for truancy, and this is obviously something that the Academy would like to avoid at all costs.
