Football frenzy at LCA

With World Cup fever taking over Leeds City Academy, students have been competing in football tournaments of their own this week. We definitely think we've got some future professionals in our midst. Read all about what we have been up to below:

White Rose Academies Trust Football Tournament

On Tuesday 19th June, Leeds City Academy played host to the annual White Rose Academies football tournament between Year 7 and Year 8.

Each team played a 25 minute game against the other school- with the winners of each Year being crowned the White Rose Academies football champions for that group.

Leeds City Academy Year 8 boys took home the title for this year who beat LWA 7-0 and beat LEA 3-2 in a highly nervy final game to decide the winner. Leeds City Academy finished top of the group for Year 8 and claimed victory.

On the other pitch, LEA won the Year 7 title by winning all their games against the other two other academies.

More events like this will be starting again in September when LCA & LEA will be defending their titles.

Leeds City Academy’s ‘World Cup’

On Thursday 21st June, Leeds City Academy pupils were involved in their very own “World Cup”.

Pupils made teams of five and were randomly allocated a World Cup country to represent. Two tournaments ran alongside each other; Year 7 and 8, Year 9 and 10 totalling over 50 students.

Mr Stott said “The passion the students have for football is unbelievable, giving them the chance to have fun and interact with others across year groups, ethnicities and cultures is amazing to see.”

Well done to all involved, we hope to run similar tournaments in the future.
