Visit from Vice Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire
Annually Leeds City Academy take part in the Restart a Heart Day where we train our Year 7 students to perform CPR. We have excellent relationships with volunteers and the Senior Engagement Lead with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service. This year we again hosted colleagues from the West Yorkshire Ambulance Service, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and West Yorkshire Police. The presence and impact of these colleagues is stupendous.
In conjunction with the above, on Thursday 17th October, we were incredibly honoured to receive a visit from the Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Tim Hare, who was accompanied by his wife Diana Marion Trigg of Bishops Waltham, Hampshire. The students were in awe of his impressive uniform and a story he told about when he was taking part in the Remembrance Day celebrations in London and a colleague collapsed. It was the quick action of a 16-year-old cadet who performed CPR, which ensured his colleague’s survival.
The Vice Lord-Lieutenant spent an hour at LCA and marvelled at the immaculate behaviour and engagement of all students taking part. He commented on how well the session about careers in the emergency services complimented the CPR session.
Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Tim Hare, said, “Students, this is an invaluable experience. We hope you will never have to use the skills you are being taught today but this training will enable you to act quickly and save lives. You never know when you will be called to action.”
Richard Chattoe, Principal commented “It was amazing to welcome the Vice Lord-Lieutenant to our Academy as part of his ambassadorial role for the brilliant national ‘Restart a Heart Day’. Students were astonished by the Vice Lord-Lieutenant’s very impressive uniform and were keen to find out about his role, links and history within the Armed Services and relationship with the Royal family. A truly unique experience! We are very grateful to the Vice Lord-Lieutenant & his wife for their time, interest in our Academy and support of this excellent programme.”
After hearing about this honourable visit, Mr Whitaker Executive Principal said "On behalf of The White Rose Academies Trust, I'd like to thank Vice Lord-Lieutenant Tim Hare and his wife Diana Marion Trigg of Bishops Waltham, Hampshire for taking time out of their incredibly busy schedule to visit Leeds City Academy. I would also like to take this opportunity to formally invite Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Tim Hare and his wife Diana Marion Trigg to visit the other two amazing academies in our Trust; Leeds East Academy and Leeds West Academy."
