Women in Engineering at Leeds Beckett

Broadening academic horizons

Year 10 students from Leeds City Academy took part in a ‘Road to Engineering’ event at Leeds Beckett University to mark International Women in Engineering Day 2018.

This event was a unique opportunity for students to broaden their academic horizons and sample courses offered by Leeds Beckett University. The day was led by University academic staff who shared their enthusiasm and passion about their courses with our students.

The students took part in a host of workshops where they learnt about engineering disciplines involved in the construction of roads including:

  • Planning & Design
  • Surveying for a main highway junction
  • Civil Engineering Project Management
  • Electrical Engineering – Operation & Maintenance of traffic lights.
  • People like me & discussion panel – students looked at strengths and likes and matched their abilities to roles within the Engineering and Built Environment Sector.
