Rachel Hassall

Vice Principal

Rachel graduated from the University of Leeds with a BA (Hons) in Geography before then completing her PGCE in Secondary Geography Teaching. Once qualified, Rachel began her teaching career at Temple Moor High School in 2008. During her time at Temple Moor, Rachel held several leadership roles including within the Post 16 team and the Teaching and Learning team until she ultimately progressed to become Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning.

Alongside her first years of teaching, Rachel completed her Masters in Teaching at the University of Leeds in 2011. Graduating with a distinction, she was then asked to lead seminars to subsequent cohorts of Masters students.

As a passionate geographer, Rachel moved to the White Rose Academies Trust in 2015 for the opportunity to apply her teaching and learning experience to develop the Geography departments across the WRAT. Rachel became Curriculum Lead for Humanities and Social Sciences in 2016, with the ambition to make the team the flagship of the academy. The success of the team was recognised as an example of best practice in subsequent monitoring reviews.

In 2018, Rachel joined the Senior Leadership Team at Leeds West Academy and the Central Trust Team, with a particular focus on CPD. At a Trust level, this saw the creation and implementation of a CPD package to all colleagues across the Trust with 10 programmes established, including Aspiring Leaders, Leadership Development and Vulnerable Groups.

From December 2019, Rachel took on the role of Vice Principal within the Central Trust Team’s School Improvement Team. This role saw the continuation of a focus on CPD for all colleagues, with new projects focusing on peer review and establishing collaboration networks of colleagues across the Trust.

In September 2021, Rachel joined Leeds City Academy as Vice Principal for Quality of Education, following a successful secondment from the Central Trust Team. In this role, Rachel has worked with colleagues to establish a quality assurance programme, update and refine the CPD offer to staff, and work with middle leaders to develop the curriculum intent and implementation across the academy.

Away from work, Rachel is a keen runner and enjoys spending time with her two young sons.
