Exam Results

Initial Results Analysis 2022-23

This exam series marks a return to normal examinations practices and the withdrawal of any special adaptations for the impact of Covid 19. Ofqual has indicated that this year’s results should return to the pre pandemic results from 2018-19. It is very pleasing to see that Leeds City Academy has obtained results which are better than the results secured in 2018-19 in all key measures, despite the interruption that Covid 19 had on the education of students in year 7 and 8. The percentage of students obtaining a grade 4 or above secured this year is better than those secured last year, with the integrated Covid adaptations. The results obtained in English is also above last year’s results in all key measures.

The school provides education to students from very varied and diverse backgrounds. The figures below give context to the proportions of students in each of the key demographics in year 11 and the school. The national figures are also included for reference.

  • The results for 2023 are an increase on the 2019 results in all areas accept Attainment 8 maths.
  • The percentage of students obtaining grade 4 and 5 in English is the highest in LCA history.
  • Attainment 8 figures have improved in the Open bucket, supported by results in English Literature and Language.

Summary of key strengths:

  • The basics measure of 4+ has increased by 7% when compared to 2018-19 and are the highest results in the school’s history
  • The unadjusted Progress 8 score of +0.32 figure means that the results secured this year are ‘above average’ when compared to the progress made by similar students nationally. This figure means that on average students obtained results which were on average a third of a grade better than they would have obtained at schools nationally.
  • The results secured in English at both the 4+ and 5+ level are the highest in the school’s history. The increase in the percentage of students securing the vital grade 4+ and 5+ in English has increased from the 2018-19 figures by 6% and 10% respectively.
  • The percentage of students securing grade 4+, 5+ and 7+ in science has increased by 8%, 8% and 3% when compared to the 2018-19 figures.
  • Attainment 8 results obtained in Open qualifications has increased by 1.31 when compared to the 2018-19.
  • The Attainment 8 figure for EAL students and Female students have improved by 3.26 and 2.08 from 2018-19 results respectively.
  • The results secured in Drama and PE BTEC have improved at the 4+, 5+ and 7+ level compared to the 2018-19 results. The Subject Progress Index (SPI) figure for these subjects also indicate that the results secured by students were above predictions.
  • SEND and PP students who have attendance in line with the whole year 11 average attendance of 85% have secured an average Attainment 8 score of 31.3 and 40.6 respectively. This illustrates a clear improvement when compared to similar cohorts from 2018-2019 where SEND and PP students secured an average Attainment 8 score of 29.29 (+4.38) and 36.0 (+4.6).
